Fundamentals

Understanding the concepts of jiu-jitsu is paramount to developing a strong, well-rounded game. These fundamental concepts are explored in great depth and detail in these classes and are the perfect way to build a solid jiu-jitsu foundation. Everyone is encouraged to come to these classes, not just the new students. These classes are ideal for anyone trialing jiu-jitsu for the first time and we recommend students wishing to commence training start in one of these classes.

No Gi

Training Jiu-Jitsu without a GI (the kimono uniform traditionally worn in jiu-jitsu) so terms this class; ‘No GI’. Training without a GI differs from regular classes not only in the training attire but in the grips, pace, as well as strategy.

While training in a GI is commonly regarded as more technical, No GI is considered to be a closer imitation of a real-life fight-type scenario. The absence of the traditional attire means training is a closer imitation of such a situation in which jiu-jitsu may need to be applied. While No GI is not purely a self-defense class and does not instruct on striking technique, consideration is given and noted to the potential of an aggressor in such situations and instructs on appropriate jiu-jitsu technique with respect to this.
